Paper Abstract : Abstract:This paper presents Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission (ICP-AES) analysis of metal ions like Cobalt, Chromium, and Molybdenum ions from blood samples of rats implanted with Co-Cr-Mo dental alloy. It could detect the lowest metal ion concentration, making it one of the major chemical characterization tests in the biocompatibility of medical devices. Four groups of animal models namely control-male, control-female (HDPE), and test-male, test-female (Co-Cr-Mo alloy) were implanted subcutaneously following ISO-10993-Part 6. After 26 weeks. The validity of the proposed methodology was assessed by analyzing certified control samples with known concentrations for all elements of interest; human, and rat whole blood. The implant of interest was evaluated to determine if the device produced an unwanted leaching of metal ions deemed to present a toxicological risk to the patient.
